
The Town of Berryville, Virginia (pop. 4,574) is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. Position's salary range is $80,000 to $115,000. Starting annual salary, which will be based on applicant's qualifications, is expected to be between $90,000 and $97,500. This position was vacated when Berryville's Chief of eighteen years retired.
The Berryville Police Department provides around-the-clock service within the Town of Berryville and provides mutual aid to other agencies in accordance with approved agreements. The Department employs the following sworn personnel: a chief, 2 sergeants, an investigator, and 8 patrol officers.
This department head position plans and directs activities of the Police Department, supervises all departmental personnel, and performs related tasks as needed. Position reports to the town manager.
The position requires a person of the highest integrity who is highly organized and able to prioritize among competing demands. Position's duties also require attention to detail, ability to work independently on projects and meet deadlines, superior communication skills, and public relations expertise.
The successful candidate must meet educational preparation and work experience as required by the position's job description. The successful candidate must possess a current certification as a Virginia Law Enforcement Officer; however, the Town may consider applicants who hold current certification in other states.
